Famous Basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar would be replacing Steven Roach in the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC). Mr Kareem is himself a coin collector, loves history and studied about Alexander Hamilton. He was the Chairman to the Skyhook Foundation which offers education to the underprivileged with the help of outdoor environmental learning. He also writes for The Washington Post and Time Magazine apart from many best-selling fiction and non-fiction books.

The CCAC proposes themes or designs for circulating US Mint coinage, bullion coinage, Congressional Gold Medals and other medals. It recommends commemorative coin designs to the Secretary and advises on the events, persons or places to be commemorated along with the mintage levels. The CCAC falls under Secretary of the Treasury and United States Mint offers administrative support, technical services and advice.
