President Obama Bronze Medals

2017-01-19 Thu

President Barack Obama received official bronze medals celebrating two terms in office on 17th January. The medals feature Obama’s portrait on the obverse and lines from his speeches on the reverse. Presidential medals honour each president of the US for each term in office. Those who serve more than one term get two medals.

Don Everhart, lead sculptor of the Mint; sculpted the reverse of the first-term medal and designed and sculpted the obverse and reverse of the second-term medal. The obverse of the first-term medal was sculpted by Hemphill.

Bronze replicas are available while collector versions are dated 2017 and minted in Philadelphia without a mintmark. The obverses feature a portrait of President Barack Obama and his name. The reverses feature a quotation from his speech and 50 stars.

The quote on the first-term medal reads

OUR DESTINY

IS NOT WRITTEN

FOR US.

IT IS WRITTEN

BY US.

JANUARY 20, 2009 (inauguration date) and signature.

The quotation on the second-term medal reads

THE SINGLE

MOST POWERFUL

WORD IN

OUR DEMOCRACY

IS THE WORD “WE.”

WE THE PEOPLE. WE SHALL OVERCOME. YES WE CAN.

JANUARY 20, 2013 (second inauguration date) and signature.
