New Banknotes Seized in India to be Put Back in Circulation

Almost Rs 100 crore worth new notes have been seized after demonetization by agencies like ED, the income tax department and police. All of these notes would be put back into circulation immediately as per an official directive issued by the ED. These notes were kept in strong rooms and will soon be released to reduce inconveniences caused to the general public.The collected money was safeguarded as evidence till the case was adjudicated. They were later deposited into the Consolidated Fund of India. Rs 60 crore in new currency notes were seized in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka alone. Rs 47 lakh was seized from the owner of an educational institution in Punjab. The IT seized Rs 21 lakh from Kolkata and 50 lakh each from Thane and Nashik.
