2017 Uncirculated Mint cents will be the first US coins to feature Philadelphia Mint’s P mint mark. The special cents will be released to celebrate the US Mint’s 225th anniversary. The cents are a one-year type coin in both circulation quality and Uncirculated finish versions. The production of these coins will stop in 2018. A P-Mint mark was first featured on a U.S. coin in 1942 with the Jefferson Wartime silver 5-cent coins.

The idea of adding a special mint mark for the 2017 coins was suggested by facility employees to celebrate the achievements of the Philadelphia Mint.
