Murtada Nizam Shah I (AH 973-997; AD 1565-1588) was a sultan of Ahmadnagar, he was the son of Husain I. The Nizam Shahi Kingdom of Ahmadnagar was one of the five successor states of Bahmani Sultanate.

Murtada Nizam Shah I was the first ruler to issue coins in his own name, known dated from AH 989 to 996. He issued coins in gold, silver, and copper. Gold coins issued by him are extremely rare, and the copper coins issued by him are very common. His copper coins bear the mint name ‘Nagar’ which stands for ‘Ahmadnagar’. The gold coin issued by him in the year 993 with not fully read legend on the obverse and the Shi'a shahada on the reverse.

One of his Silver Twelfth tanka which weighs around 2.09 gm minted at Nagar was sold for INR 65,000 at Todywalla Auction held in Kolkata on 29th December 2012. The obverse of the coin bears the legend name and the reverse side of the coin bears Kamila. This coin is extremely rare.
