We have already seen so many paintings of India and each century developed its different form of art. Raja Ravi Varma is one the most famous Indian Painters of 18th Century. His paintings are the fusion of western and Indian Art. He started with the charcoal paintings on the street walls and later mastered in oil paintings. He has painted various scenes from Ramayana and Mahabharata. He has also painted women in various moods with true Indian essence in it. They throw light on the socio-economic and religion of India during 18thCentury and itself is a topic of the thesis.A commemorative stamp of Raja Ravi Varma was issued by India Post which depicts him with a beautiful painting ‘Hamsa Damayanthi’ having the face value of 20 Paisa. Damayanthi is a character in a love story found in the Varna Purana.
