One of the oldest educational institutions in Ukraine - The 200-year old Lviv Trade and Economic University was featured on a new Ukrainian coin that was released on 12th December.

The history of this institution dates back to the 19th century as it is the successor of the famous Lviv Commercial Academy which trained individuals for trade and business. The institution was founded on 7th March 1816. It was given the honourable status of State Trade School and today is a modern educational and scientific institution in the European model.

The obverse features the state emblem of Ukraine with the depiction of the main building of the Lviv Trade and Economic University. Other inscriptions include “Ukraine”, “Two Grivnia” and “200 Years” in the Ukrainian language, 2016 and the logo of the Mint of Ukraine.

The reverse design includes the coat of arms of the university, 1816, Latin motto LITTERIS ET COMMERCIUM (“Letters and Trade”), and “Lv?vsky Torgovelno Economic University” in the Ukrainian language.

The mintage limit of this 2 Grivnia Nickel-silver 12.8 g coin is 30,000.
