This silver five kori was issued in the reign of Maharaja Khengarji II of Kutch in 1906/1963 AD/VS.

Maharaja Khengarji II was longest ruling king of Kutch. He established the Kutch railway station and carried forward the work of his Predecessor Maharaja Pragmalji II of educational and Judiciary reform. Prag mahal, Kandla port, Vijay Vilas palace and Cutch Castle at Bombay were built by him.

This silver kori was issued with the name of King Edward VII of England. He was emperor of India during that time. The obverse of this coin depicts a royal symbol, denomination kori 5 and Kutch, Bhuj/ date and legend in the outer circle reads “Maharajadhiraj Mirza Maharao Khengarji Sawai Bahadur”.

The reverse side of the coin depicts legend in Persian which reads the name of King Edward VII and mint name Bhuj with the date in Persian below within the floral scroll around it. Khengarji II brought the numismatic innovation to Kutch by bringing Coin minting machinery in 1927.

This silver five Kori was sold for INR 2, 10,000 in Pune on 10th December 2016 by Todywalla auctions.
