Should coins always be in round, rectangular or square shape? No, we don’t think so. Instead, the different shape of the coin makes it more unique as most of the coins are minted in circular shape.Zambia went far ahead in this and minted a coin in the shape of its map which honours the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
The obverse has a coat of arms and below has its face value ‘5000 Kwacha’. It also has a portrait of Tiara headed bust queen Elizabeth II facing right and above inscribed is ‘Olympics 2000’ and to the right of the coin is the stylised building of Sydney Opera House and the top has a ‘Bank of Zambia’.
The reverse of it depicts seven sprinters on a track and above ‘Millenium Olympics 2000’
This coin is made of silver and weighs around 31.36 grammes.
