The Royal Australian Mint recently issued a special commemorative 50-cent coin to honour the legendary cricketer Richie Benaud. The coin was used for the toss in the third Test at Adelaide Oval on Thursday. The mintage limit for the coins is 95,929 which is derived by adding various statistics from Benaud's cricket career. The coin features Benaud's portrait with a scene from a match in the background. The design perfectly depicts various stages of his career from the Australian cricket team captain to a renowned commentator.
The coin remembers the 1960-61 Australia v West Indies Test series, which included the first tied Test. A Barbados $5 note features Frank Worrell, the West Indies captain during that series.
