The latest 2017 Two Dollar Circulation Coin Design under the Our Wonders theme of the Royal Canadian Mint, designed by Dr. Timothy Hsia features the northern lights.

The reverse depicts two boatmen gazing at a night sky lit up with the beautiful Aurora Borealis. The designer said that the Northern Lights is something that every Canadian will connect with and that for her it symbolises Canada’s unity and beauty. She has rightly named the design ‘Dance of the Spirits’ as it is a special moment when the spirits seem to be dancing to the human eyes.

Other inscriptions include CANADA, 1867, 2017, 2 DOLLARS, TH for Hsia’s initials, and two maples leaves. Obverses depict Susan Blunt’s effigy of the Queen with inscriptions of Queen Elizabeth II, D G, and REGINA.
