On 14th September, it was officially announced by Indonesia’s president, Joko Widodo that 12 national heroes of Indonesia would be featured on banknotes of the country but the 100,000-rupee bank note will still feature the founding fathers Soekarno and Mohammad Hatta. The new notes will also bear the new inscription NEGARA KESATUAN REPUBLIK INDONESIA (The Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia).

The new 50,000-rupee note would feature a portrait of the past Prime Minister Juanda Kartawidjaja. The new 20,000-rupee note will now feature the independence activist and first governor of Sulawesi Gerungan Saul Samuel Jacob Ratulangi. Frans Kaisiepo will be depicted on the new 10,000-rupee note, politician K.H. Idham will be on the new 5,000-rupee issue, M.H. Thamrin on the 2,000-rupee note. Tjut Meutiah, a woman who fought against Dutch colonialism in the early 20th century, will be on 1,000-rupee note.

Three other national heroes would be depicted on new coins.
