Gupta Gold coins are obvious to be sold at high prices because of their outstanding features. But this one deserves to be!The archer type coin is the most common type of Chandragupta II Vikramaditya (375 -415 AD), but it comes in a wide range of varieties.
One of his Gold Dinar of Archer type depicts King standing left, holding an Indian long bow in his left hand and an arrow in his right and Garuda standard at left. It has a Brahmi legend “Deva Shri…Chandragupta” in exergue. In the reverse goddess Lakshmi is shown seated with cross legs on lotus and holding noose in one hand and lotus in another with Brahmi legend Shri Vikra(mah) to the right and Tamgha to left.
According to Altekar, it is an extremely rare variation of the ‘Archer’ type because it does not bear the name of the king written under his arm which shoots the price and was sold for Rs.7,00,000!
