Gupta period is marked by peace, prosperity and all-round progress in the field of art, literature, architecture and science flourished beyond expectation. Scholars have compared it with Augustus Age and in Indian history, it is referred as Golden Age.
There is no wonder why Gupta coins are so beautiful. One such extremely rare gold coin probably of Puru Gupta was sold for Rs 20,00,000 in Classical Numismatic Gallery, Ahmedabad. The obverse of the coin depicts the king in tribhanga pose and on reverse side Goddess Lakshmi is shown seated on Lotus with Brahmi legend on both sides.
