Remembering Agatha Christie: The Queen of Crimes!

Agatha Christie, the lady who made us all fall in love with detective stories and crimes, was born today on 15th of September in 1890!Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller was born into a wealthy upper middle-class family in Ashfield. She was educated at home by her mother since a very young age Agatha indulged herself in fantasy plays, music and writing. Her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, was published in 1920, and it was an instant success. She went on to become one of the most famous writers in history.
A crime novelist, short story writer and playwright she is best remembered for her detective stories including the two diverse and interesting characters of Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot.
Considered to be the best selling writer of all time, she sold billions of copies of her work. Her works have been translated into more languages than any other individual writer. Amongst her most popular books were “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd” (1926), “Murder on the Orient Express” (1934), “Death on the Nile” (1937) and “Murder at the Vicarage” (1930).
In 1971 she was awarded the high honour of becoming a Dame of the British Empire. She died in 1976 aged 85.
To mark 100 years since Agatha Christie wrote her first crime novel, the Royal mint issued a set of Special Stamps depicting the key scenes and characters from six iconic novels of this Mystery Queen! She is also featured on many stamps from the entire world some of them are a 30 Pence stamp from Isle of Man, a 90 cents stamp issued by Antigua and Barbadua, a 100 Somali shilling stamp of 2000 by the Somali Republic and many more.
