500 Ancient and Rare Coins Seized by the Customs Department

On 7th September the custom’s department seized two consignments containing rare and ancient 539 coins belonging to different eras.As per some tests conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the coins belonged to the Indo-Greek, Shershah Suri and Akbar eras. Out of which, eight of them were 2,000 years old.
An Indian national who entered India via the Integrated Check Post, Attari, land route on 15th October 2015 carried the consignment with 239 coins.
A Pakistani was found with the second consignment carrying 300 coins on 16th January 2016 this year, when he brought it with him through Samjhauta Express.
The customs officials would investigate the case and ASI experts would evaluate the real worth of these coins.
