Birth anniversary of Shyam Lal Gupt Parshad

Shyam Lal Gupt, popularly known as Shyam Lal Gupt Parshad, was born on 9th September in 1896.He was an Indian poet and lyricist whose song “Zenda Ucha Rahe Humara” featured in the 1948 film, ‘Azadi Ki Raah Par’. This song has also been accepted as the flag song of India and is sung every year during the flag hoisting ceremony at the Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations.
He was a teacher, a social worker and a Freedom fighter. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1969. India Post also honoured him in 1997 by issuing a INR 1 commemorative postage stamp.
