Stack’s Bowers Galleries had announced its collaboration with Numismatica Ars Classica to offer George W. La Borde Collection of Roman Aurei – Part I at an auction on 23rd of May, 2016 in Zurich, Switzerland. The coins of this collection are highly sought after and have been put together by experienced experts.The lot included rarities like an Aureus of Clodius Albinus which has only just three known examples, of which this is the finest. An Aureus issued by moneyer Numonius Vaala with a beautiful design was also offered. Only 15 such coins exist today. Aureus of Nerva, Aureus of Caracalla featuring a fierce radiate lion holding a thunderbolt in its maw on the reverse were also offered. An Aureus of Macrinus from the prestigious Trau Collection, an Aureus of Constantius I Chlorus were also up for sale.
