On 19th May, the Mint of Austria revealed the design for the final coin under the series “Austria by its Children” which was dedicated to Upper Austria or Oberosterreich in German. Located in the central-northern part of the country, with Germany and the Czech Republic at its borders, the region’s capital is Linz. It is the country’s fourth-largest province and the third largest by population. The region is known for green meadows, mountains, clean rivers and streams as well as outdoor activities like skiing, snowboarding, climbing, horseback riding, and sailing.Klara Baumgartner of Dachseberg School designed the reverse side depicting the church of Linz on Poestling Hill with the coat of arms adorned with the crown of the former duke and three participants of the annual Gloeckler parade wearing “Gloeckler” costumes. The Traunstein Mountain and Traunsee lake are also depicted in the background.
The obverse features the town of Hallstatt, a UNESCO world heritage site with the evangelical church in the foreground and the Catholic church on the hill. Traditional houses are featured on narrow streets. A flat bottom boat built steered by the boatman is also featured. Other inscriptions include REPUBLIK OSTERREICH, 2016, 10 euros, and HALLSTATT.
The coins come in three variations: 15 grams copper UNC, 16 Grams Select BU .925 silver and 16 Grams Proof .925 silver coins. The mintage of the copper coin is unlimited, that of the BU silver coin is 40,000 pieces and that of the Proof Silver coin is 30,000 pieces.
