£100 note from Gibraltar to Celebrate 100th Birthday of Sir Joshua Hassan

On August 24th, it was announced that a polymer £100 bank note would be released by Gibraltar to commemorate the 100th birthday of Sir Joshua Hassan. Hassan was Gibraltar’s mayor, first and third chief minister, as well as fought for civil rights and self-government for the British territory.The currency would be the country’s first polymer note. Dated 21 AUGUST 2015, the obverse would feature the existing Queen Elizabeth II portrait and the reverse design would be modified to feature a bust of Hassan.
The issue will have a large clear highly reflective window with a hologram, showing images of Queen Elizabeth II and the letter G for Gibraltar. Hassan’s family members received the first note, with serial number C000001. It would be the last release under the Gibraltar’s new series which began in 2011.
