The 1943 half-crowns and florins worth 2 shillings in those days were struck at the London-based English Royal Mint. Though they were minted in normal circulating quantities, they weren’t issued. The unissued coins were given back to the mint for melting in the early 1950's. The Central Bank of Ireland had decided to replace the .750 silver coins with standard Cupro-Nickel ones. Some of them were circulated. Only four such florins exist today in Uncirculated Condition and are worth as much as €18,000.
