Rumours about Ban on New Rs. 10 Coins Affect Bareilly
2016-08-29 Mon
A rather unusual situation has occurred in Bareilly when a rumour was circulated on social media and WhatsApp that the new 10 Rupees coins issued by the government have been banned officially. Nobody, including shopkeepers, grocery stores owners etc. are accepting these coins anymore. The Banks have declared that no guidelines have been issued by the RBI about the ban of these new 10 Rupees coins.People in areas such as Kaka Tola, Jasoli, Quila and Shamatganj have been the ones who have almost completely boycotted these coins. The 2010 coins have 15 rays circling the space where 'Rs 10' is mentioned while the 2016 coins have only 10 rays. The new coins have the symbol of rupee while the older ones have the word rupee on it. People in the area are cynical about using the new coins for day-to-day transactions.
Efforts are being made by Bank of Baroda by educating the general public that these coins are officially being circulated and nobody has the right to deny it.
