Malta issued a circulating commemorative €2 coin in August celebrating the 36 century B.C. Ggantija temples - a megalithic temple complex from the Neolithic period. This World Heritage Site is considered to be one of the world’s oldest free-standing religious structures. They were built before the times of Stonehenge and the Egyptian Pyramids. Two temples were made in the Neolithic Period (circa 3600 to 2500 B.C.).The coin shows the temple complex with some inscriptions of the buildings and their age. Other inscriptions include the issuing country, year of issue and Mint master mark. The coin also features 12 stars of the European flag and the reverse shows a map of the European Union. The mintage is limited to 350,000 coins
