An Australian man who doesn’t want to reveal his identity unearthed a 145-ounce gold nugget valued at $250,000 AUD on 25th August at the southern end of Central Victoria’s Golden Triangle in Australia. The GPZ 7000 model metal detector by a manufacturer named Minelab was used to locate it. This 145-ounce nugget one is almost double the weight of the “Fair Dinkum” nugget which was discovered in 2015 near Wedderburn. Fair Dinkum nugget was sold at auction for $175,000 Australian.
A day prior to this find, the same metal detectorist found a 9-ounce tennis-ball-shaped nugget over 2 feet under and tried his luck again the next day. The explorer was extremely surprised with what he found. He washed it in water, covered it with aluminium foil and kept it in his oven on the first night.
The nugget is now stored safely in a bank and would be auctioned very soon.
