USPS to Issue a Stamp on Diwali
2016-08-25 Thu
After Eid, United States Postal Service will honour Diwali on a special Philatelic issue. A new forever stamp is to be issued commemorating the joyous Hindu festival of Diwali. Also known as Deepavali, Diwali celebrates the triumph of good over evil. Spanning five days each autumn, it is considered by some to be the start of the New Year. On the Hindu calendar, Diwali falls on the eve of or on, the new moon that occurs between mid-October and mid-November.
The stamp design is a photograph featuring a traditional beautifully lit oil lamp, sitting on a sparkling gold background.
Issued as a Forever stamp, this stamp is set to hit the market on Oct 5th. This Forever stamp will also be equal in value to the current First Class Mail 1-ounce price. The first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony will take place at the Indian Consulate in New York City.
This is truly a joyous moment for India.
