Swimmer Jazz Carlin who represented Team GB at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games is featured on five million GB gold edition 50p coins produced by The Royal Mint in Cardiff. They have been circulated to the banks and will slowly appear among the common people. Swimmer Jazz Carlin herself officially struck one of these commemorative 50p coins.

Carlin won the silver in the Rio 400m freestyle just when the coins were distributed. Precious metal versions were sold earlier this year and a gold version can be purchased for £755. Even 50p coins would also become a collector’s choice. Officials declared that 70 % of 50p London 2012 coins have been collected. Royal Mint’s officials are extremely excited about the coin release and believe that it is a good way to motivate the athletes.
