Khudiram Bose – the youngest revolutionary of India was hanged on 11th August 1908 when he was just an 18 year old youth. Mintage World salutes the most courageous and the youngest freedom fighter of India on his 110th Death Anniversary.Born in a little village of West Bengal, Khudiram Bose was a son of a Tehsildar. It was the British policy of Partition of Bengal in the year of 1905 that dragged him to the war of independence. Influenced by the thoughts of Sri Arubindo, Khudiram Bose joined Jugantar - the party of revolutionary activists at a tender age of 16 years.
His first revolutionary activity involved leaving bombs near police stations and making government officials his victims. He with association of Prafulla Chaki made a plan to assassinate the Chief Presidency Magistrate Kingsford who was infamous for his blatant behaviour towards the revolutionaries. The plan failed and both the revolutionaries fled. Unfortunately Khudiram Bose was arrested and sentenced to death. He was hanged to death on 11th August.
India Post honours this young hero of India with a special commemorative stamp. Issued in the year 1990 the stamp comes with the denomination of INR 1.00 and features a portrait of Khudiram Bose.
