The achievements of India’s shooters in 2026 also offer an opportunity to look back at how the sport has been represented on Indian postage stamps. India Post has repeatedly used Olympic-themed issues to commemorate India’s participation in shooting and other sporting disciplines.

For the XXI Olympic Games at Montreal in 1976 , India Post issued a 25 Paise commemorative stamp featuring shooting , as part of a four-stamp set celebrating India’s participation in the Olympic Games . The shooting stamp carries the Olympic symbolism and reflects India’s representation in one of the long-established Olympic sports. It was issued on 17 July 1976 .

Ahead of the XXVIII Olympic Games at Athens in 2004 , India Post issued a four-stamp se-tenant set on 13 August 2004. The set represented wrestling, athletics, shooting and hockey, with the shooting stamp carrying a denomination of ₹15. The issue celebrated India's participation in the Athens Olympics, where Indian athletes competed across 14 disciplines.

For the XXIX Olympic Games at Beijing in 2008 , India Post issued another four-stamp set and a miniature sheet on 8 August 2008. The four stamps depicted the Olympic Torch (₹5), Shooting (₹15), Archery (₹15) and Boxing (₹5). The shooting stamp is especially notable in the context of Indian Olympic history because Abhinav Bindra won India’s first individual Olympic gold medal in shooting at Beijing 2008.

At the XXXI Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 , India Post once again featured shooting among India's major Olympic sports. Issued on 5 August 2016, the four-stamp set included Badminton, Boxing, Shooting and Wrestling. The Shooting stamp was valued at ₹25, while the set was accompanied by a ₹60 miniature sheet featuring all four sports. The shooting design depicts a rifle shooter in action.

The stamps preserve the visual memory of India's sporting participation, while today's shooters are creating new chapters on the range.
