London 2012 Olympic Gold Medal Sold for $55,831

A winning gold medal from 2012 London Summer Olympics was offered at the RR Auction on 21st July and sold for an impressive $55,831 to an anonymous collector from U.K. 44 participation medals, 19 winners’ medals and 31 torches offered in the online sale. The auction made a total of $302,250.The incuse edge inscription which indicates the sport for which the gold medal was presented was not revealed by the officials to keep the name of the recipient of the medal undisclosed. It was onlyu revealed to the winning bidder.
Designed by British artist David Watkins, the obverse features the inscription XXX OLYMPIAD LONDON 2012, the winged Nike over Panathinaikon Stadium and the Acropolis.
The reverse features the emblem of the London Games.
Many more interesting Olympic Medals were sold at the event.
