Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab, known as Utkal Kesari and the Lion of Odisha, was a freedom fighter, politician, social worker, and writer.He supported Mahatma Gandhi and participated in the Salt Satyagraha and Quit India Movement. As Chief Minister of Odisha, he played a significant role in the Hirakud Dam's construction and the merger of princely states.
In 1983, he received the Sahitya Akademi Award for 'Gaon Majlis,' and in 2024, India Post issued a stamp to commemorate his 125th birth anniversary.
