Series 2006 $100 Notes with ‘FW’ Designation will not be Issued

2016-07-29 Fri

460 million regular Series 2006 $100 bills were printed at the Fort Worth, Texas, facility for the New York, Kansas City, Dallas and San Francisco districts combined. 3.84 million star notes were issued for Dallas and San Francisco districts. 396.8 million Series 2006A notes were made for the Dallas and San Francisco banks, and 6,144,000 stars were printed for Dallas only.

A small “FW” is printed on the obverse. These notes have never been spotted anywhere and hence are considered to be very rare. These notes were produced as contingency stock and then were continued for the current series 2009 and 2009A Next Generation $100 notes. Officials state that since these contingency notes were not needed, they were not circulated.

BEP states that all Series 2006A $100 notes printed in Fort Worth used Washington, D.C., plates and were circulated. Only this set of notes printed at Fort Worth plant did not have the “FW” designation.
