FIFA was established on This Day in 1904 to supervise international competition and plan the widely watched World Cup.

One year after attaining independence, in 1948, the AIFF became a FIFA member. 1948 saw the official formation of the national squad, which went on to compete in its first competition—the 1948 Summer Olympics.
