Due to rumours that the RBI has declared Rs. 10 coin to be invalid, some people in Tigaon and Old Faridabad have stopped accepting them. Authorities have stated that people who refuse to accept a legal form of money can be booked under Section 489A to 489E of the IPC. Also they have stated that they frequently receive bags filled with 2,000 10 Rs. coins from RBI, which means that they are not invalid at all.

The rumour has become so widespread that it is very difficult to convince shopkeepers, big or small that Rs. 10 coins are not invalid. People are now trying to get their Rs. 10 coins exchanged with Rs. 10 notes. But SBI officials refuse to get them exchanged.

A formal letter would be sent to RBI informing them about the situation and efforts are being made to make people aware about this rumour.
