King Maha Vajiralongkorn became the king of Thailand in 2016. Thailand's central bank introduced banknotes with a portrait of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, replace his late father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej. King Maha Vajiralongkorn wore the Order of the Nine Diamonds and the uniform of the Royal Thai Air Force commander.
The Bank of Thailand issued Thai Baht in six denominations, including the 50 Thai Baht denomination (Vajiralongkorn). In 6 April 2018, the bank issued 50 Thai Baht.
The obverse depicts Thailand's King Vajiralongkorn in ceremonial uniform on the banknote. The reverse featured portraits of Rama III Chessadabodindra Nanglao and Rama IV Mongkut.
