There are plans to produce new Cornish penny featuring Cornish Tin this summer which is being powered by a Crowdfunding project. Two versions of the commemorative token would be made to celebrate the Cornish Mining World Heritage Sites Tinth anniversary events.Cornwall Gold has been credited with Europe's last original surviving tin streaming works and has a special place in the history of the Camborne and Redruth area. Officials are hoping to raise the required amount to produce these coins.
In the 18th and 19th Century, Cornwall issued private currencies from Dolcoath and Scorrier House when Redruth was the richest town in Europe.
The new coin would feature Tolgus Tin wheel motif on the obverse and an engine house on the reverse.
A special limited edition gold vermeil coin will also be available for collectors.
