Louis XVIII (Louis Stanislas Xavier) was born on 17 November 1755. He was known as “The Desired” and was king of France from 1814-1824. He stayed in exile in Russia, Prussia and England for years during French Revolution and the First French Empire. In 1814, When Napoleon was defeated by the sixth coalition in the battle of Waterloo. Louis XVIII was placed as the king of France by the French royalists. However, Napoleon escaped from his exile in Elba and restored his empire. Louis XVIII fled away in exile, and a Seventh Coalition declared war on the French Empire, defeated Napoleon again, and Louis XVIII again restored to the French throne.

Louis XVIII ruled as the king for almost a decade. The Bourbon Restoration was a constitutional monarchy. By the Charter of 1814, Louis XVIII’s royal prerogative was substantially reduced. The formation of the Quintuple Alliance and military intervention in Spain marked his reign further.

Lous XVIII died on September 16 1824. After his death, his crown was given to his brother Charles X, as he had no children. Louis XVIII was the last king to die while still reigning.
