The Battle of Lepanto was the great sea battle fought between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire on the 7th of October, 1571. This battle has marked a pivotal moment in history. The naval battle took place in the Gulf of Patras located in western Greece. This battle is marked as the largest naval battle that involved more than 400 warships and 100,000 combatants.

The battle of Lepanto marked the first significant victory for a Christian naval force over a Turkish fleet and the climax of the age of galley warfare in the Mediterranean.

This commemorative stamp was issued in 1971, by country Malta, commemorate this great battle.
