Military Payment Certificates Collection to Be Auctioned
2016-07-19 Tue
A valuable collection of Military payment certificates will be sold at the Stack’s Bowers Galleries Auction which will be held at the American Numismatic Association convention in Anaheim, Calif. The high-end collections are publically known but this particular Paymaster Collection was put together by a government employee who got the notes from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and private printers directly. It was finally consigned to Stack’s Bowers Galleries in May and is the only complete set of MPCs known.Though they were issued in the U.S, they were not spent there. They were used by American military personnel in foreign countries. They were issued after the Allied military currency notes of World War II were released. Out of the 15 series of payment certificates that were printed, 13 were issued between 1946 and 1973. Series 691 and 701 were not officially issued but are presented here.
Series 691 and 701 were not officially issued but will be offered at the event along with specimens, replacements, and partial printings. A complete specimen book of Series 701 with fractional denominations along with other important books will also be offered at the event.
