Ramses II, also known as Ramesses the Great, was the third pharaoh of the Nineteenth Dynasty of Egypt. He was the most powerful and celebrated pharaoh of Egypt. His rule is considered the golden age of Egypt.

Ramses II ruled Egypt between 1279 and 1213; his reign was the second longest in Egyptian history. He ruled for almost 66 years until his death. During his reign, he led the Egyptian army against several enemies like Hittites, Syrians, Libyans, and Nubians, and thus, not only expanded but also secured its borders against attackers.

The Central Bank of Egypt issued this 50 Piastres banknote depicting Ramses II in 1967. They were withdrawn from circulation in 2015.
