Manipur completes golden jubilee of statehood

Statehood Day is celebrated every 21st of January. The Reorganisation Act mandated the creation of the state of Manipur. Imphal is the capital of northeastern Manipur state. The state border touches Nagaland to the north, Mizoram to the south, and Assam to the west.Manipur has a diverse group of ethnic groups speaking different languages and dialects, practicing Hinduism, Christianity, Sanamahism, Buddhism, Islam, and other folk religions. Meitei or Manipuri is the Lingua franca of Manipur.
Bamboo is common in Manipur and an important contributor to its economy as well as cuisine. Soibum tandem eromba is a bamboo shoot dish of Manipur.
Jagoi is one of the major Indian classical dance forms from Manipur. Mukna (wrestling hockey) is a popular form of wrestling. Women mainly play Oolaobi (Woo-Laobi) outdoor games.
The golden jubilee of Manipur state was commemorated by issuing a postal stamp. A stamp portrays Kangla Gate, the west entrance to the Kangla Fort.
