Todywalla Auction House Listed Chandragupta II, Gold Dinar for INR 1,20,000

This rare gold dinar dating back to the Gupta Empire will go under the hammer in an auction that will be held in Mumbai on April 23, 2022.

This auction will be conducted by Todywall Auction House and will feature various other coins minted during the time of the Mughal era, British India and others.

This ‘Chhatra (Parasol)’ type gold dinar was issued by Chandragupta II, during his rule in Gupta Empire. The weight of this gold dinar is around 7.79g. The obverse side of this gold dinar depicts a standing king facing towards the left, offering oblations to the fire alter with his right hand and left hand resting on the hilt of a long sword hanging from his waist. An attendant behind holding royal umbrella Chhatra over the king's head. Brahmi legend 'Kshitimvajitya sucharitairdivam jayati Vikramaditya' around. The reverse side of this coin depicts goddess Lakshmi standing in profile, holding a long-stemmed flower and riband with tamgha to the left and Brahmi legend Vikramadityah in the right field.
