Raja Ravi Varma was an Indian painter and artist; he is considered the greatest painter in Indian history. He is best known for his paintings related to ancient Puranas and great Indian epics - Mahabharata and Ramayana. His work is one of the best examples of the fusion of European academic art with a purely Indian sensibility and iconography. He is responsible for taking Indian art all over the world; with his impeccable technique.Raja Ravi Varma was closely related to the royal families of Travancore, of present-day Kerala state in India. His two granddaughters; were adopted by the royal family, and their descendants comprise the totality of the present royal family of Travancore, including the latest three Maharajas.
