On 6th June, a 1933 Indian Head $10 eagle, graded PCGS MS-66 CAC was sold for $881,250 at the Beach Auction in Los Angeles by Ira and Larry Goldberg. The coin belonged to an unnamed Midwestern family. Many other 19th and early 20th century Coronet gold and Indian Head $2.50 quarter eagles, $5 half eagles and $10 eagles were offered at the event.

Out of a total mintage of 312,500, only 40 examples exist today. Most of the 1933 Saint-Gaudens double eagle were melted. But the initial lot of 1933 eagles were released over the normal course of business. The Government had no plans to recover 1933 $10 eagles unlike the 1933 double eagles.

Experts believe that this particular coin was the finest known example.
