The day of 1st July is celebrated as the Agriculture Day or Krishi Din in Maharashtra. The day is celebrated as the remembrance of the Father of Green Revolution of Maharashtra – Vasantarao Naik. Hence, the day falls on his birthday. As a part an agrarian country, the state of Maharashtra is one of the chief producing states of India. For many products, the country depends on Maharashtra. However, the farm and farmers of the state have been suffering since few years.
This predominant occupation of Maharashtra has become the subject of crisis. Lack of rains and growing inflation has made farmers the victims. The Krishi Day, hence, is one of the platforms to find the solutions to these serious issues.
The functions held on this day honour the farmers, giving extraordinary contribution in Agriculture. Many awards are given on this day which encourages more and more committees to participate and to fight the problems that have arisen in recent years with the aim of making Maharashtra a Green State.
India Post has issued many definitive stamps on the theme of farms, farmers and the farm animals. Among which the 30 Paisa stamp features Maharashtrian women working in rice field.
