The Banco Central de Reservadel Peru or Central Reserve Bank of Peru had issued Peruvian Sol banknotes in 12 different denominations, including this 500 Peruvian Intis banknote. They are part of the demonetized Peruvian Inti banknotes series. The Banco Central de ReservadelPerú started issuing these 500 Peruvian Sol banknotes in 1985. They were withdrawn from circulation in 1991.

Currently, Sol is the official currency of Peru which is sub-divided into 100 cents. Peru is located in western South America. It is bordered in the north by Ecuador and Colombia, in the east by Brazil, in the southeast by Bolivia, in the south by Chile, and in the south and west by the Pacific Ocean.

The 500 Peruvian intis banknote features the revolutionary leader of the Andean uprising against the Spanish in Peru, Tupac Amaru II. On the back of the Quinientos Intis banknote is a view of the Andes Mountains with a climber.
