The note features the Reserve Bank of Malawi headquarters building in Lilongwe; Inkosi Ya Makhosi Gomani II (Philip Zitonga Maseko) on the obverse. And the reverse portraits the images of Elephants, trees, and safari vehicles in Kasungu National Park. The banknote comprises of 2012 series.

The term ‘kwacha’ was first used in Zambia, where the Zambian kwacha was introduced in 1968 as a currency. It derives from the Chinyanja or Chichewa word meant ‘it has dawned’. The kwacha replaced the Malawian pound in 1971 at a rate of two kwacha to one pound.

Malawi is a landlocked country in southeastern Africa. The country is bordered by Zambia to the northwest, Tanzania to the northeast, and Mozambique to the south, southwest, and southeast. It has two UNESCO-listed sites, Lake Malawi National Park and Chongoni Rock Art Area.
