The feeling of losing your most prized possession is disheartening and sometimes shattering. That’s exactly what happened with an Edmonton coin designer and president of Beaverworks Mint, Joseph Green who left behind his valuable collection in a taxi in St. John's. But luck was by his side as the taxi driver returned the entire collection safely back to him.He had come down to attend the Legion Dominion Command Convention to showcase 38 silver coins worth $6,000 dedicated to the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and the Avro Arrow aircraft.
Upon receiving his set of coins, he expressed his delight on social media and has promised to give a coin to the cab driver, and another to the people of the province.
The proof quality, one troy ounce silver coins with gold plating and colour printing were minted to celebrate the 100 years of RCAF with 100 different coin designs. The coins feature serialized edge markings dedicated to the Avro Arrow aircraft. 5 percent of every coin sold will be donated to the Edmonton Kingsway Legion. One of these coins was recently sold for $1,675, a part of which was donated to the Fort McMurrary relief effort.
