Chandragupta II Gold Dinar Sold for INR 140,000

This ‘Chhatra’ type gold dinar issued by Gupta king Chandragupta II is sold for INR 140,000 in an electronic auction of Todywalla Auction house held on February 7, 2021. Chandragupta II was the son of Samudragupta, he was the next great emperor of the Gupta Empire after Samudragupta. Chandragupta II was the second ruler of the Gupta Empire, he is also known by the title Vikramaditya. During the reign of Chandragupta II art, architecture, and sculpture and the cultural development of the Gupta Empire reached their highest peak. The obverse of this gold dinar depicts the king standing facing to left, offering oblations to the fire altar with his right and his left hand rests on the hilt of a long sword hanging from his waist, an attendant standing behind the king holding a royal umbrella.
