The Burj Khalifa officially opens in Dubai

2021-01-04 Mon

Soaring 828 meters above the metropolis of Dubai, the Burj Khalifa (Khalifa Tower) is the world’s tallest man-made structure and building. It officially opens on 4th January 2010.

The construction of Burj Khalifa began in 2004, with the exterior completed in 2009. The design is derived from the Islamic architecture of the region, such as in the Great Mosque of Samarra. The building was named in honour of the ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Burj Khalifa was designed by Adrian Smith and the building has received many awards. To celebrate the sixth anniversary of the world’s tallest tower, postage stamps were launched. The commemorative stamp has been issued in a Dhs 3 denomination and it depicts the tower rising above Downtown Dubai at sunset.

The launch of the commemorative stamp is a fitting tribute to the vision behind Burj Khalifa and the years of hard work by thousands of professionals around the world that went into building it.
