The city of Bern, Switzerland is proud of its symbol, the bear. The bear has been the animal on the seal and coat of arms of Bern from at least the 1220s. The coin shown above is the 5 Batzen coin issued in the year 1826. This Silver coin depicts Bear in crowned oval shield within sprigs on one side and Concordance cross within quatrelobe on the other side.
